"The 15% discount on all but Junior season tickets is likely to make purchasing a season ticket a viable option for many fans, in particular those that sat in the Central blocks or Family enclosure" commented TrustSTFC Treasurer Leigh Collett, "However, these measures only redress part of the problem of the new season ticket pricing and fail to offer anything to supporters with less disposable income".
"The whole season ticket pricing is a fiasco" stated TrustSTFC Vice-Chairman Andy Ratcliffe, "The removal of tiered pricing for the Nationwide stand still means that many fans face 50% increase in ticket prices, even taking into account the new incentives."
"It would appear that no thought has been put into the pricing other than how much gate receipts are needed next season. This kind of budgeting is blatantly flawed because it is doesn't take into account the number of fans who will, or in many cases can afford to, actually pay these prices to get into the ground" Ratcliffe continued.
TrustSTFC is also concerned that the club's pricing strategy could affect families attending matches. The limited capacity of the Town End, with tickets at £13, means that the next cheapest seats will be the Family Enclosure at £18. There is no doubt that many fans unable to get into the Town End will choose the Family enclosure.
"Ticket pricing is always an emotive issue, but historically STFC have ended up putting deals together to get irregular fans through the gates and despite efforts to compensate season ticket holders, they are nearly always the losers from paying upfront for their football" stated Collett, "We would not be surprised if the first ticket offers came into effect as early as September to try and boost flagging attendances".
