Nearly 1,000 Swindon fans had already made the trip up to Stoke-on-Trent when they heard that the game had been called off because the goal month was still frozen.
Most fans from both sides will be wondering why the game couldn't have been called off in the morning, it wasn't as if if had got colder during the day. Port Vale also had said they expected the game to go ahead.
The game at nearby Crewe against Stoke City was also called off late on.
No new date has yet been set for when this game will go ahead, but on the plus side it does mean that Swindon won every single game they played during February. Swindon's promotion chances were also helped when Bristol City were beaten for the first time in 2004 by Sheffield Wednesday 1-0.
