Save The Town End

Last updated : 12 September 2003 By TrustSTFC
The increasing popularity of the Town End, and the resulting vocal support for the team have made for a much more positive atmosphere for both fans and players alike.

However, TrustSTFC has learned that there is a real danger of this atmosphere being lost due to the current ground regulations. In particular the requirement for all fans to remain seated during the game.

Unless ground regulations are complied with, there is a genuine threat that Council safety officers will close the Town End completely under the terms of the ground's safety certificate. This is no idle threat. Our information is that the club have until the end of the year at the latest to persuade fans in the Town End to sit down during games.

This places the club in a very difficult position, as they cannot be seen to ignore the terms of their safety certificate, but at the same time, do not wish to dilute the atmosphere generated by the Town End. Following discussions with the club, we have offered to try and come up with a solution which will avoid the closure of the Town End, while still preserving the lively atmosphere at that end of the ground.

To this end, we invite all fans who use the Town End to make their views known either to us, or directly to the club. You can write to us at TrustSTFC,PO Box 2582,Swindon,Wilts,SN25 4SQ. Send feedback via our web site www.truststfc.co.uk, or call in to the Trust office (near the entrance from County Road), prior to any home match.
