Curtis Weston, and Ady Williams both joined Swindon, as did goal keeper Phil Smith, and Paul Evans along with Petr Brezovan on the loan for the season.

Aaron Brown requested to go on the transfer list, and ended up training with Doncaster Rovers, but soon returned to Swindon.

Swindon won their first game of the season 1-0 away to Hartlepool, but on the way back a plane carrying investor Bill Power, Mark Devlin, his son, and Mike Sullivan crashed in Buckinghamshire. All were injured, which lead to Bill Power having to pull out of the club for time being whilst he recovered.

Swindon went on to win the first 6 league games of the season, and even signed Paul Ince who played 4 games, but wasn't match fit, so was released at his own request, and went on to become Macclesfield's manager.

Bob Holt quit as a board member in September after a falling out with Dennis Wise following comments he made about rumours that Wise would quit.
