Swindon V Crewe at County Ground - Match Preview

Robins wait on Smith

Swindon will check on the fitness of defender Alex Smith ahead of the visit of Crewe to The County Ground.

The Robins have a Capital One Cup third round tie with Chelsea to look forward to after disposing of QPR on Tuesday night but Smith picked up a shin injury in that memorable 2-0 victory and had to be taken off before the break.

If Smith fails to make it then the likes of Ryan Mason could come into contention but winger Tijane Reis is still out with a knee problem.

Former Newcastle striker Nile Ranger looks set to start for the Robins once more after netting for his first goal since signing for the club on a free transfer.

Crewe will be missing three players for the clash.

Forward Byron Moore, who has just two appearances to his name this term, will miss out again because of a thigh injury while defender Thierry Audel is still feeling the effects of a dead leg.

They join long-term absentee Mathias Pogba (knee) on the sidelines, with the former Wrexham forward unlikely to be back in action until November after undergoing surgery following the pre-season game against Manchester United.

The Alex did have doubts over Abdul Osman (leg), Oliver Turton (foot) and Harry Davis (shin), yet all three are expected to declare their availability ahead of the trip.
