Swindon V Torquay at County Ground - Match Preview

Cooper boosted by Byrne return

Swindon caretaker boss Mark Cooper will be boosted by the return of defender Nathan Byrne for the Capital One Cup tie with Torquay at The County Ground.

The 21-year-old former Spurs man missed Saturday's 1-0 loss to Peterborough as he served a one-match ban for his red card in the second leg of Swindon's play-off defeat to Brentford in May.

And caretaker manager Mark Cooper has no intention of resting players against the Gulls as he looks to gel his new-look side together.

Midfielder Ryan Harley, who scored a vital play-off semi-final goal against Torquay back in his Exeter days, made his debut against Posh having joined from Brighton and he could be in line for another start against familiar opponents.

Torquay goalkeeper Martin Rice is set to retain his place after helping his side to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

The former Exeter shot-stopper was in inspired form as the Gulls earned a point against AFC Wimbledon and he will be given the nod once again with Michael Poke (thigh) sidelined.

New signings Jordan Chapell and Karl Hawley had to settle for places on the bench at Plainmoor and are pushing to start at the County Ground while Elliot Benyon will hope to retain his place against his former club.

Glen Hoddle was among the goalscorers in a 3-2 win for the Robins when the sides last met in this competition back in October 1992.
