The month started with a 1-0 defeat away to QPR watched by over 18,000 fans including 3,000 who made the trip up from Swindon. The league season ended with a 1-1 draw against Hartlepool watched by 11,627 fans. This was the game where a draw was good enough for both sides to get into the play off's.
The season ended with the Play off's, the first time Swindon had been involved in the play off's for 11 years. The first leg was at home to Brighton watched by 14,034 at the County Ground and was live on Sky, Swindon lost the first leg 1-0, then a few days later travelled to the Withdean Stadium where many Swindon fans were soaked after a thunder storm. This game Swindon won 1-0 in the normal time (1-1 agg) with a 81st minute goal by Sam Parkin, extra time ended with Swindon winning 2-1 up the night after a Rory Fallon goal after 97 mins, but Brighton scored in the final minute of extra time to make it 1-2 on the night, and 2-2 over the two legs. Swindon then went out on penalties after Mooney and Gurney both missed a penalty, but Parkin, Heywood and Fallon all scored from the spot with Brighton winning 4-3 on penalties, and then beating Bristol City in the final to get promotion.
Swindon released some of the pre season fixtures, with games lined up away to Redditch, and Bristol Rovers and home to Millwall and Southampton.
Bart Griemink, Jon Stevenson, and Ben Martin were all released by Swindon, with Tommy Mooney also leaving to join Oxford later in the summer after turning down a new contract at the County Ground. Paul Thirlwell was also linked with a move to Swindon from Sunderland, but this didn't come to anything in the end.
