Boston 4 Swindon 1

There was a very poor crowd of only 2,467 on this cold evening in Lincolnshire, or Bostonshire as the locals seem to call it.

Swindon got off to a bad start going behind after only 10 minutes when Julian Joachim who played for Leiester City in the 1993 play off final at Wembley against Swindon scored from the edge of the box with his shot taking a deflection of Rory Fallon.

Then on 18 minutes Swindon's night went from bad to worse when goal keeper Tom Heaton was sent off for bringing down Joachim just inside the box. Youth 'keeper Matty Bulman came on with Neil McDermott been taken off. Bulman made a perfect start saving the penalty.

Four minutes later Boston made it 2-0 when Bulman half saved a Joachim shot, but poor defending by Jerel Ifil allowed Joachim to score from his second attempt.

Swindon didn't look like scoring although Andy Gurney's did hit the post on the half hour mark, but it was a low powered shot and it rolled away to safety. Christian Roberts also had a free kick from 25 yards out but this went over and wide of the goal.

Bulman had to made a good one handed save to keep the score down, but Swindon were soon three goals down when on 40 minutes Maylett scored after some more poor Swindon defending.

Then what must have been one of the worse Swindon first half's ever Swindon found themselves 4-0 down before the half time break when 3 minutes into injury time Boston scored with a goal from Jason Lee.

Like the Bristol City game last Friday most of the action fell in the first half as in the second half Boston relaxed and didn't seem to try and get any more goals, and Swindon still didn't look like they would score in normal play.

With the Boston fans signing about how they were 4-0 up and playing bad Swindon pulled a goal back late on wth a Rory Fallon penalty on 83 minutes after a handball by Boston's Alan White. Fallon sent the 'keeper the wrong way to score his 10th of the season, but it was too little too late.

Overall a poor game which Boston deserved to win, but they were also very poor, but took their chances well. Apart from the penalty Swindon never came close with most players have a poor game. Swindon now return to league action on Saturday when they travel to the Midlands to play Port Vale.
