Doncaster hit back from a goal down but had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw against Swindon Town at Belle Vue.
The entertainment was first class but both sides were disappointed not to take maximum points in their quest for a promotion play-off place.
Swindon made a dream start when Lee Holmes fired them in front after five minutes, but they were forced to hang on after Welsh international Neil Roberts had equalised on the half-hour mark.
Holmes slammed the ball home from close range after Sam Parkin had set him up following a quick counter-attack with Doncaster appealing in vain off-side.
Rovers' response was to step up the pace and visiting keeper Rhys Evans had to make a splendid save to keep out a shot from Dave Mulligan in the 29th minute.
But there was no stopping Roberts a minute later when he rattled home a low shot from just in side the box after James Coppinger had created the chance with a splendid tackle.
Michael McIndoe went close to putting the home side in front when he dribbled through just before the interval only to see his shot cleared of the line by Sam Igoe.
The relentless pace continued in the second half with Rovers on top again as Gregg Blundell was foiled when his shot from an angle was well saved by Evans.
Swindon gave as good as they got at times and were unlucky themselves when Grant Smith hit the post in the 66th minute after latching onto a half clearance.
It was Doncaster who finished the stronger side and it needed a great tackle by Sean O'Hanlon to prevent Blundell from scoring in the 71st minute.
Evans came to the rescue again with a brilliant save to prevent a cracking 20-yarder from Tim Ryan entering the net.
Mulligan hit the side netting and Roberts had a snap shot saved in the last minute but in the end both sides had to settle for a point.
