It was Swindon's first away defeat in the league since October watched by over 1,000 travelling Swindon fans. It was also Iffy Onoura and Paul Smith's first return to Gillingham and both we given a good reception by the home fans.

The game itself was very poor from Swindon with goal keeper Rhys Evans dropping a number of early saves, which had to be caught on the second attempt, or cleared away by the Swindon defence.

Swindon did have a few early chances with Charlie Comyn-Platt coming close a couple of times with Gillingham's 'keeper having to make a good save.

Gillingham took the lead on 20 minutes when a cross by Spiller was again dropped by Evans, and fell to Darren Byfield to tap in from close range.

Comyn-Platt again came close to getting an equaliser with a shot which went just over the bar, and Cureton also came close in the first half after a Fallon close by his shot was saved.

During the half time break Rhys Evans came back out early with sub 'keeper Matt Bulman to practise his catches and saves. Sean O'Hanlon was also replaced at half time by ex Gillingham defender Paul Smith who has now just signed for Swindon.

After a mistake from Aaron Brown Swindon went 2-0 down when he allowed a cross from Spiller to be put in from close range by Mike Flynn on 73 minutes in front of all the Swindon fans in the uncovered stand behind the goal.

Cureton and Fallon both came close to getting a goal back for Swindon, but Swindon then fell behind by another late Gillingham goal on 83 minutes scored by Neil Harris from close range after a corner which was cleared away.

The game finished up 3-0 which overall wasn't a fair result, although Gillingham were the slightly better side a score line like 2-1 would have reflected the game better. The defeat leaves Swindon 6 points away from safety in 23rd place ahead of this Saturday's localish derby with Bournemouth at the County Ground.

During the game and after the game they was some crowd trouble with fans from both sides clashing with each other going back to the 1987 play off final.
