Swindon started the game with a few youth team players with Michael Pook, and Kyle Lapham starting, and with Andy Caton, Ben Wells and Ashan Holgate on the bench.
In the first half Swindon matched Huddersfield, and it was Swindon that had the first chance of the game with Rory Fallon having an early header saved, and pushed out for a corner.
Grant Smith took a Swindon free kick from 25 yards out, but he couldn't repeat his goal from last Saturday, as this time his shot went wide.
Kyle Lapham had a good first half, he started in place of the injured Steve Jenkins, and he didn't do anything wrong. He also made a good pass to Christian Roberts, but Roberts shot was saved.
With the first half coming to an end neither side had much in the way of scoring chances, but then with only a minute to go the referee started showing his cards, first booking two Huddersfield players for not getting back 10 yards for a free kick, then booking David Duke for a second time for a foul so he got sent off. Then 30 seconds or so later Rory Fallon went in for a tackle with his studs showing, and also got sent off leaving Swindon to play the second half with only nine men.
At half time Andy King made two subs with Andy Caton replacing Christian Roberts, and Ben Wells replacing Grant Smith leaving Caton to play up front on his own.
With Swindon down to nine men they didn't get much of the ball, and had very limited chances in front of goal, but this didn't stop Caton having to work very hard before he was replaced with another youth player Ashan Holgate.
On 62 minutes Huddersfield finally took the lead with a Abbott shot just beating Evans from the edge of the area, even though Evans managed to get his fingers to the ball.
Andy Booth then made it 2-0 on 78 minutes with a shot from inside the area, that left Swindon with little chance of getting anything out of the game.
Abbott then got his second goal of the game two minutes later with a volley even though Evans claimed the ball had already gone out of play.
Then on 85 minutes Rob Edwards who had only come on three minutes earlier scored to made it 4-0 and end Swindon's away games of the season with their worst defeat.
Huddersfield did come close to getting a 5th goal, but ran out of time before the referee blew up for full time.
Overall it would have been a very different game if Swindon had not had any players sent off, with both sides looking even in the first half. Apart from a couple of first half chances Swindon who were without the injured Sam Parkin never looked like scoring, although the two years forwards Caton and Holgate both played well.
Swindon will finish the season next week at home to Chesterfield hoping to finish the season in the top half of the table now the play off are out of reach.
