Sammy Igoe came close for Swindon after 7 minutes, with his shot going just over ex Swindon 'keeper Steve Mildenhall's goal.
Brian Howard opened the scoring for Swindon on 32 minutes when he found the ball at his feet from 10 yards out to beat Mildenhall. Steve Robinson had passed to Sam Parkin, but the shot deflected off a Notts County player into the path of Howard.
Swindon went into the break winning 1-0 after the fairly poor first half, by both sides.
On 65 minutes Alan Reeves was said to have bought down Notts County's Tony Hackworth inside the box. The referee pointed to the spot and awarded Notts County a penalty. Paul Heffernen took the kick, and sent Rhys Evans to wrong way to level the scores at 1-1.
Andy King bought on new loan signing from Everton Sean O'Hanlon waering the number 2 shirt mid-way though the second half, replacing Steve Robinson.
On 86 minutes Mooney won the game for Swindon with a low header following a David Duke cross. This was Mooney's 5th goal in the past 4 games.
Overall a fairly poor game, but one that Swindon took their chances well, and needed to win if they are going to be in the play off's at the end of the season.
The win moves Swindon up to 4th on 44 points ahead of this weekend's away trip to Steve McMahon's Blackpool.
