Jeril Ifil made his second return of the season to the Swindon squad, but this time wearing a new number - 28, and his old number 2 shirt has been given to Junior Lewis.
Swindon got off to a good start with Mooney going close early on, but after 11 minutes Oldham were awarded a penalty when Matt Heywood was said to have fouled Oldham's Calvin Zola. Heywood was sent off leaving Swindon with only 10 men.
Zola took the penalty himself, but he hit the post, the ball rebounded back, and Oldham should have scored but they hit the ball well over the bar.
Goal keeper Rhys Evans had a good game for Swindon making many good saves to deny Oldham through out the game.
Mooney should have scored at least one for Swindon as he had many good chances in the first half shooting just wide on more than one occasion.
In the first half Oldham hit the post again, and had a goal ruled out for offside as Swindon luck held out they went into the break with the scores still at 0-0.
Town took the lead after 63 minutes when Swindon looked like they should have been awarded a corner, but the referee judged the ball was still in play, and Lewis was able to cross the ball to allow Parkin to score from close range.
New signing from Barnsley Rory Fallon come on with 15 minutes to go to replace Sam Parkin, and had a good few minutes, but didn't manage to get a debt goal.
Overall a good game which Swindon were lucky to win, although Oldham didn't play well they did have a few good chances in the first half with Evans being forced to make some good saves to keep a clean sheet. For once this was a game where dispite a poor referee, and having to play most of the game with ten men luck seemed to be with Swindon.
