A brace from Onandi Lowe gave Rushden & Diamonds a welcome 2-0 victory at Nene Park against ten man Swindon Town.
Swindon had the first attempt on goal after 16 minutes. Following a mistake by Andy Sambrook, Stefani Miglioranzi combined with Sam Parkin to set up Sammy Igoe but his shot was turned round the post by Jamie Ashdown.
On 21 minutes Diamonds almost took the lead when Rodney Jack's 25-yard shot was superbly touched over the bar by Rhys Evans.
From the resulting corner Diamonds took the lead when Barry Hunter flicked on Jack's cross and Lowe headed home from six yards.
Swindon's cause was further hindered when they had striker Rory Fallon sent off for violent conduct after he appeared to elbow Hunter in the face in an off the ball incident.
On 33 minutes Swindon's Brian Howard saw a 25-yard free kick deflected for a corner.
Despite playing with 10 men, the visitors had more of the play and looked the more likely to score.
On 57 minutes Steve Robinson saw his long range effort well saved by Ashdown.
Diamonds' second goal came on 63 minutes and against the run of play. Lowe was fouled by Alan Reeves on the edge of the penalty area and the Jamaican international picked himself up to curl a delightful free-kick past Evans and into the left hand corner of the net.
Three minutes later captain Andrew Gurney saw a 30-yard effort whistle just over the bar.
Despite the introduction of Tommy Mooney to partner Parkin up front, the home side were rarely troubled in defence and indeed could have scored a third goal at the death when Andy Burgess' short range shot was superbly saved by Evans at point blank range.
Rushden manager Brian Talbot was understandably pleased with his side's victory.
"We responded in a magnificent way following the disappointing performance at Peterborough and its three more points towards our safety total of 50."
