Robins close in on promotion
Swindon took another step towards promotion with a 1-0 victory against Northampton at the County Ground.
Lee Holmes' second-half strike settled matters as the Robins moved seven points clear at the top of npower League Two.
After a drab first half, the winger, on loan from Southampton, produced the game's decisive moment in a fixture that lacked any true quality.
Seven minutes after the interval he whipped in a cross which evaded everyone and skipped off the surface into the top corner. From then on the game sprung into life and Paolo Di Canio's could have extended their lead, only for top scorer Paul Benson to nod wide from another Holmes cross.
Northampton, meanwhile, showed little in attack and rarely looked like equalising. The visitors' day was summed up when Brett Williams fired over from the edge of the area in the 80th minute.
The Robins had further opportunities to double their advantage but substitute Raffaele De Vita blazed over from 12 yards with seven minutes to go while Alan Connell sliced wide in the 88th minute.
