Andy Caton made his first start for the Swindon first team replacing Christian Roberts who was dropped to the bench, and Sam Parkin also started what could have been his last ever game for the club in place of the suspended Rory Fallon.
Kyle Lapham also started his second game in a row in place of the injured Steve Jenkins, Lapham was then offered a full time contract after playing well for the second game in a row.
Swindon started well and went 1-0 up after only 13 minutes when Sam Parkin headed in a cross from the Lapham to score his 23rd and final goal of the season.
Chesterfield who hasn't had a shot on target until then scored on 21 minutes with a shot from Tcham N'toya from a tight angle inside the box.
Neither side had any more good chances before the break, with the score level at 0-0 at half time.
In the second half both teams seemed to just be waiting for the season to end with few real goal scoring chances from either side, although a Grant Smith header did go quite close for Swindon going just over the top of the bar.
Swindon bought on Ashan Holgate to replace Sammy Igoe, and Christian Roberts to replace Andy Caton mid way though the second half.
Grant Smith took one of his free kicks but he didn't try to score instead he crossed the ball to Heywood, who was playing his last game for the club, but his header when over.
Steve Robinson came on for the final 15 minutes playing his last game for Swindon aswell, replacing Andy Nicholas. It was Robinson's first game for 4 months since he went off injured against Bradford in January.
Christian Roberts came fairly close to scoring, but couldn't get his shot on target, and at the other end Rhys Evans had a quite game as Chesterfield rarely looked like they would score, so the game ended 1-1.
Overall a fairly average game with both sides knowing that what ever the result they would both be playing League One football next season. Over 6,000 turned up to see what might well have been Sam Parkin's last game for the club.
At the end of the game most of the players came back out onto the pitch to thank the fans for their support with Swindon finishing the season in 12th place with 63 points.
