Swindon 1 Gillingham 0

Swindon lost 3-0 to the Kent side only a month ago and it was the return fixture on Tuesday evening.

Swindon started well with Jamie Cureton coming close a number of times with long distance shots which nearly went in, but most his early chances went just over.

Swindon took the lead on 27 minutes after a pass from Lee Peacock found Jamie Cureton on the edge of the box, and he was able to lob the 'keeper.

Gillingham's 'keeper handled the ball just outside his area, but he didn't get sent off, as he wasn't a clear goal scoring chance, so instead he was shown a yellow card, and Swindon were given a free kick on the edge of the box.

On 38 minutes ex Gillingham player Paul Smith had to go off injured for a second time, and he was replaced by Miglioranzi.

In the second half Gillingham went down to ten men when Darren Byfield was sent off for knocking the ball out of Rhys Evans hands, and into the back of the net. Evans was also shown a yellow card at the same time, maybe for something he said.

Both sides wasted chances with Cureton again coming close, and Gillingham also had a few chnaces but Evans had a fairly quiet night in the Swindon goal.

Christian Roberts came on for Swindon replacing Ricky Shakes, and came close to scoring, but his shot was deflected and went out for a corner.

In the final few minutes Jamie Cureton really should have made it 2-0 with a one on one with the 'keeper but somehow his shot was saved by the Gillingham 'keeper.

Gillingham came close to equalising in the final 3 minutes of added time, but they ran out of time and Swindon won 1-0 which was a fair result overall, and a result which moves Swindon up to 16th place, although they are still just one point above the relegation zone going into Saturday's home game against Rotherham United.
