Robins leave it late against Gills
Two late strikes gave Swindon a 2-0 victory over Gillingham.
A 30-yard effort from Matt Ritchie in the 80th minute and another from Jonathan Smith in added time made sure of the points for the hosts, who extended their winning run to three League Two games.
The teams were level at half time with few scares in either goalmouth, as both goalkeepers were forced into only routine saves. Wes Foderingham, the Swindon keeper, palmed a cross into the path of Gills striker Jo Kuffour in the 30th minute, a chance which the former Bristol Rovers man he should have netted, but Robins defender Alan McCormack reacted brilliantly to block the striker's effort.
For Swindon, Ritchie produced a good low strike early on, but apart from that there was little to cause any alarm in the visitors' defence.
After the break both sides were guilty of misplaced passes, but Luke Rooney was unlucky to see his low drive rebound off a post in the 65th minute, the ball bouncing along the goal-line to safety.
Ritchie's strike came from nothing 30 yards out with 10 minutes remaining, and Smith rounded off the win with second left. Gillingham will think themselves unlucky not to have at least shared the points.
