Substitute Smith inspires win
Swindon midfielder Jonathan Smith came off the substitiute's bench to drive Paolo Di Canio's side to a routine 2-0 win over Southend at the County Ground.
Smith's superb 20-yard striker seven minutes before half time set Swindon on course for their first back to back victories in 11 months following last week's defeat of Rotherham.
Algerian Mehdi Kerrouche doubled Swindon's lead three minutes after half time with his second goal of the season.
Swindon were the better team throughout and Kerrouche was unlucky not to open the scoring after just seven minutes when his header from Matt Ritchie's cross rebounded off the corssbar.
Robins old boy Blair Sturrock's close range header forced a fine decent save from home goalkeeper Mattia Lanzano.
There was nothing Southend 'keeper Glenn Morris could do about Smith's right foot pile-driver, which flew into the bottom left corner for his first goal of the season.
Kerrouche made the points safe, sweeping home from six yards after neat interplay between Simon Ferry and Matt Ritchie.
