Charlie Comyn-Platt and Trevor Benjamin started in place of Lee Peacock and Andy Nicholas.
The first half was fairly eventful with Andy Gurney picking up a booking for tripping up a Chesterfield player on the half way line, but seconds early Chesterfield had got away with doing the same thing to a Swindon player.
Benjamin came very close for Swindon after 31 minutes after a Jack Smith cross, but the ball went just wide. Jack Smith also went close for Swindon, but his shot also went wide.
Then just before half time Trevor Benjamin missed another good chance from close range, and it looked like it would be one of those games when nothing would go right for Swindon.
New French loan signing Toumani Diagourago came on at half time to replaec Michael Pook. He looked good during the second half, and turned up just about everywhere on the pitch winning a lot of balls.
Toumani Diagourago set up Smith from close range, but Smith missed again, but then he set up Benjamin who's shot was only half saved by the Chesterfield 'keeper, and then Jamie Cureton scored from close range as the 'keeper hadn't kept hold of teh ball.
Chesterfield barely had a shot all game with Rhys Evans hardly having to make a save, and once Swindon were 1-0 up they never looked as if they would come back.
Chris McPhee came on for Trevor Benjamin for the final 10 minutes, and also did well, but wasn't on long enough to score.
In the final minute of normal time Swindon made it 2-0 when a pass from Whalley found Cureton who beat the 'keeper from 10 yards out.
Overall a fairly average game, but an important win for Swindon, and a rare win for a day when a special offer was on again with Swindon fans on the Stratton Bank. Swindon are without a game next week, so the next game is at home to Hartlepool in two weeks time.
