Swindon 2 Oldham 3

This was Swindon's first home game of the new season, and just like the start of last season Swindon have lost their first two games.

Oldham took the lead against the run of play after 13 minutes when Rob Scott was able to head the visitors in front from close range.

On 38 minutes Oldham doubled their lead with a free kick from 25 yards out which Andy Liddell scored hitting the ball into the top right of the goal.

Swindon have very few chances throughout the first half, and seem to be missing Sam Parkin, and some of the other players from last season.

The second half started nearly as badly as the first half with Oldham going 3-0 up after Jerel Ifil fouled Chris Porter in the box, and Oldham were given a penalty, the second one Swindon have given away in two games. Andy Liddell took the penalty, and sent Rhys Evans the wrong way to make it 3-0.

Christian Roberts came close mid way through the second half with Swindon's first real chance of the game, but his shot went just wide.

Andy King bought on all 3 subs together with Shakes, Nicolau, and Reeves all coming on, replacing Pook, Nicholas, and O'Hanlon.

Christian Roberts scored his first goal of 2005 after 79 minutes to give Swindon a chance with a good shot from inside the area.

Then on 84 minutes it looked as if it could be another 'Sheffield Wednesday' with new summer signing Tony Thorpe scoring his first goal for Swindon with a shot from inside the area.

Swindon had a number of last minute corners, and came very close to getting an equaliser with Jamie Cureton hitting the bar, but unlike last October against Sheffield Wednesday Swindon didn't manage to get the all important third goal.

Overall the game was a bit like Barnsley last Saturday. Neither side was good, and Oldham didn't deserve to go 3-0 up, it was just down to bad defending by Swindon. A draw would have been a fair result, but like last season Sindon have made a bad start to the season losing their first two games, so are now bottom of the table ahead of Sturday's home game against Nottingham Forest.
