Over 13,000 packed into the County Ground, with most being home supporters as the club opened the Stratton Bank for home supporters.

Swindon started well, but it was Wigan who took the lead on 35 minutes when they were awarded a penalty following a foul by Flint. Watson took the kick which hit the post, but then McManaman scored from the rebound to make it 1-0.

Alan Connell then equalised for Swindon on 40 minutes with a close range header. Connell has come into good form recently, with 3 goals in the past few games.

Mid way through the second half Swindon took the lead when a Matt Richie shot hit new signing Paul Benson to deflect into the back of the net after the Wigan 'keeper had dived the wrong way.

Swindon held on the record the famous win over a side 3 divisions above them. Swindon will now be in the 4th Round draw for the first time since 1996.
