The County Ground has had a few improvements made to it over the summer with a new pitch, and some new seats. The Kingswood Stand has been renamed to Don Rogers Stand.
It didn't take long for Swindon to take the lead with Billy Paynter finding the back of the net after only 5 minutes with a close range header.
On 37 minutes Simon Cox made it 2-0 with a shot from 10 yards out.
Swindon had most of the play in the first half and went into the half time break leading 2-0.
Swindon got their third goal shortly after the break with a powerful shot from Jon-Paul McGovern which seemed to have been cleared off the line, but the linesman who was level with the goal awarded the goal to make it 3-0.
Swindon pushed on for a 4th goal, but Tranmere instead got a goal of their own on 86 minutes with a close range shot from Bas Savage making it 3-1.
Overall a good game. Swindon looked in control throughout and never looked like losing. On Tuesday evening Swindon are at home to QPR in the first round of the Carling Cup.
